We are in a new era of automobile manufacturing. While the large auto companies are struggling with global platforms, alternative fuels and global competition, a new challenge is coming their way. This "new era" does not have a name yet, but Local Motors refers to themselves an "Automotive 3.0 Company". It is definitely an analogy most of the Internet generation can relate to. I believe the key factor in this is simply the fact that consumers want more choices.
