We are in a new era of automobile manufacturing. While the large auto companies are struggling with global platforms, alternative fuels and global competition, a new challenge is coming their way. This "new era" does not have a name yet, but Local Motors refers to themselves an "Automotive 3.0 Company". It is definitely an analogy most of the Internet generation can relate to.
I believe the key factor in this is simply the fact that consumers want more choices. For decades we have been stuck with the bland non-offensive styling coming from the major automobile manufacturers. And for the performance enthusiast, you can have your bland non-offensive vehicle with a hood scoop and some ground effects! Wow, thanks!!

Analysis: Although the Blade is not currently a production vehicle, it does represent a shift in thinking. As more individuals enter into the auto design space public awareness will be raised. Service companies will expand their offerings to support and enable the niche auto manufacturer, which will pave the way for others.
